I looked around the website and could find no definitive statement of what MacPorts is supposed to be. Lots of "join us", but no "this project is/does" paragraphs. I would expect to find such a paragraph at the top of the HOME page.
Using Mac since 1984. Unix since 1978.
The website needs an overhaul and I think plans are in the works. The MacPorts Guide is brand new (in development and unfinished) and makes an attempt to say what it is/does. http://geeklair.net/new_macports_guide/ I think shortly we will link it on the current website. Critiques of the new guide are welcome. Mark
