This is what I do:
1) sudo port install whatever > ~/whatever.install.log 2>&1 2) Ctrl+Z 3) open ~/whatever.install.log 4) fg
The end result is that I have Console.app open with the log file while port is running in the Terminal.
Yes, I can do that ... or simply this: "port -v install whatever". I was talking about the case where I already have started a build without "-v" (for example, "port install whatever"), and I want to open another terminal window and look at its progress.
