I have tried several times using both the default archive utility and stufit expander. neither produces a mountable file system after several downloads. All my other download activities are working normally. It worked fine for me just now. Do you have the same file I do? Same checksum and file size? Here's what I have: $ ls -l PortAuthority.dmg -rw-r--r-- 1 rschmidt rschmidt 5434225 Jan 24 23:41 PortAuthority.dmg $ md5 PortAuthority.dmg MD5 (PortAuthority.dmg) = cd8bd0c65e309871e2b1518904a24c9d $

using bunzip2 -t on the downloaded arc reports: bad magic number, not a bzip2 file. William Davis frstanATbellsouthDOTnet Mac OS X.5.1 Darwin 9.1.0 XQuartz 2.1.3 - (xorg-server 1.3.0-apple9) Mac Mini Intel Duo @ 1.86 GHz Mundus vult decepi, ego non
I'm also having trouble with the download of PortAuthority, at least with Safari. This is on a MacBook Pro with 10.5.1. If I download with Safari, I get PortAuthority.dmg.bz2. If I double click on that file in the Finder I get a PortAuthority.dmg.bz2.cpgz file. Running bunzip2 -t on PortAuthority.dmg.bz2 gives: bunzip2: PortAuthority.dmg.bz2: trailing garbage after EOF ignored If I then do bunzip2 -d it gives the same error message but produces a .dmg. However, trying to mount the .dmg gives a no mountable file system error message. Changing the setting of Safari preference "Open safe files after downloading" didn't seem to have an effect on this. However, if I download it with Firefox I get a mountable .dmg file with a usable PortAuthrority. -David On Jan 24, 2008, at 9:52 PM, William Davis wrote:

Unfortunately, I can't confirm this on my end--the file downloads via Safari and mounts fine for me. I have encountered errors such as this on a random basis with other DMG's. Sometimes removing the .bz2 suffix solves the problem--the DMG then mounts without trouble. -- Kevin Walzer Code by Kevin http://www.codebykevin.com
Yes, manually removing the ".bz2" from the file name works. So it is actually a ".dmg" file, not a ".bz2" file. On Jan 25, 2008, at 2:02 PM, Kevin Walzer wrote:
