Hi, I have run into difficulties in instaling fox (goal is to install freeride). I have MacPorts/Darwinports 1.320 installed. When I try to install fox I get: sudo port install fox ---> Fetching fox ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://www.fox- toolkit.org/ftp/ ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- od.opendarwin.org/fox ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- msn.opendarwin.org/fox ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- bay13.opendarwin.org/fox ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- od.opendarwin.org/ ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- msn.opendarwin.org/ ---> Attempting to fetch fox-1.2.13.tar.gz from http://distfiles- bay13.opendarwin.org/ Error: Target com.apple.fetch returned: fetch failed Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. When I check the fox ftp site (http://www.fox-toolkit.org/ftp/) I note that fox 1.2.13 is not listed (1.2.18 is though). Does this mean that if the porfile were to be updated to require 1.2.18 that all would work (I suspect that there are only minor bugfixes between the 2 versions) unless 1.2.13 was a typo and 1.2.18 was the version intended all along. I have tried posting to bugreports and emailing the maintainer but haven't had much success yet. Any advice as to what I can/should do woud be much appreciated. It's not a typo. The port was deliberately upgraded to 1.2.13 on 2005-01-31, but the port hasn't really been touched since then. Why don't you try upgrading the port to 1.2.18 on your local machine. ("port edit fox") If it works, then provide us with a patch that a committer can commit.

X11 always goes in /usr/X11R6. It's a peculiarity of X11. "port info ImageMagick" will show you that it depends on XFree86. You'll also see a "+nox11" variant you can use if you don't want ImageMagick to link to the X11 system. If you type "port info XFree86" you will see that it is at version 4.5.0. Instead of building XFree86 using MacPorts, I recommend you install Apple's X11 package. You'd need to install both the X11User.pkg, which is part of Mac OS X, and the X11SDK.pkg, which is part of Xcode.

I'm pretty sure the maintainer for fox is around anymore, so I updated it to 1.2.13. For fun I tried 1.7.7 but it failed to build. After rsync catches up a selfupdate will show 1.2.13. Mark

Well, "com.apple.checksum" isn't about a website; it's just a unique identifier for a piece of software, in this case the checksum software. And the message just means that the md5 checksum you entered doesn't match the md5 checksum of the archive. Perhaps one of the downloads (either the one you did manually, or the one MacPorts just did) was incomplete, and therefore the md5 checksum wasn't what it should be.

I know nothing about freeride or rb-ripper, but is rb-ripper really required for freeride? Portage only has 0.03 of rb-ripper and it isn't a dependency of freeride. What happens if you comment out that dependency in freeride? There is no maintainer for rb-ripper and the app is way old. That did it, works like a charm. Fox installed, no problem.
My freeride installation, however, broke at rb-ripper with the message:

I had to remove rb-rrb, rb-drb, and rb-ripper from the port depends_lib. After doing this freeride did install and appears to work. Thanks for your help. I will tinker with it and see if it is any use as is.
Cool. If the port is ok without it, then you should submit a portfile patch to remove them on Trac. If you want to be a maintainer or co-maintainer of the port you may do that also. The currently listed maintainer may not be around anymore. Mark
