I have installed the Gnome desktop mega port and thought I followed the installation instructions corrects, but obviously not. I have somehow got myself into an infinite loop at the GDM login screen, which sits on top of all other windows and, regardless of what user name/password combination I use refuses to all login. I have trawled through the pages I can find on this site, but I can't sort it out (which is not saying an answer is not here, I just don't know what I am looking for). The GDM logon dialogue opens regardless of the user (admin/richard) so I have been looking in /Library, /Library/ LaunchDaemons and /Users/(username)/Library, /Users/(username)/ Library/LaunchDaemons but no luck. I can't find an /.xinitrc file for any users. All help gratefully accepted and acknowledged.
