There is a ticket with a patch to update octave to 2.9.15 (though 2.9.16 is already out) which you could try if 2.9.9 doesn't build for you:
I can give the updated octave a try; if it works, I can commit the port. I'm not sure why the Port maintainer has not changed to gcc-4.2 for the PPC port; perhaps he doesn't have access to hardware? I'll run builds on my x86_64 and PPC Leopard machines and see if anything bad happens. Thanks, -Brent
