Re: Re: is the avahi user creation supposed to be part of
why are you installing avahi?it already says on their Track that avahi is an implimentation of mDNS. having 2 of those on the same machine would clearly be a problem, simply use Bonjour. The Avahi mac people will simply have to make their avahi damon work around Bonjour becasue removing bonjour will most likely break mac os functionality. -- "lalalalala! it's not broken because I can use it" http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=194281&threshold=1&commentsort=0&m...

It is installed as part of a dependency chain. I have gimp installed, which depends on librsvg, which depends on gnome-vfs which in turn depends on avahi I don't really know why avahi is necessary (or if it actually is necessary), but both avahi and Bonjour seem to be working fine, and coexisting, on my machine. --Adam

Not sure if any of this means it has to be running, just so long as it's installed. It doesn't look like avahi has been running here and I haven't noticed anything missing. -- Paul Beard / www.paulbeard.org/ <paulbeard@gmail.com/paulbeard@gmail.com>

Avahi is a total mDNS package, including an mDNS responder, utilities for browsing mDNS resources, and libraries for integrating mDNS services and discovery into applications. Clearly, we don't the mDNS responder portion running if we are using the OS X mDNS responder, but we do want the rest of it. -- Randall Wood randall.h.wood@alexandriasoftware.com "The rules are simple: The ball is round.
