Hi.. Just installed mrtg using macports and can¹t seem to do anything else. Where does MRTG get installed to? Do I need to install RDDtool separately? Any advice helpful. Thanks Dan

% port contents mrtg Port mrtg contains: /opt/local/bin/cfgmaker /opt/local/bin/indexmaker /opt/local/bin/mrtg /opt/local/bin/rateup [snip] I don't believe you need RRDtool installed to use it. -- Daniel J. you don't. They are separate packages. to use mrtg, simply run cfgmaker by pointing it at an SNMP-enabled device and capturing the output to a file. then run mrtg with that file and you are collecting data. RTFM on the finer points, but that's it in a nutshell. I'd give an example but I no longer use mrtg: I use rrdtool. If you think you might want rrdtool (which offers a lot more) checkout cacti (cacti.net) as a front-end/config manager. care and feeding of rrdtool is much more involved. that I do have examples for: http://paulbeard.org/cacti/Graphs%20for% 20paulbeard.org/red_24.html -- Paul Beard contact info: www.paulbeard.org/paulbeard.vcf pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pdb206/ Are you trying to win an argument or solve a problem?

I like NRG for SNMP graphing. A bulletproof perl based RRDtool front-end that is very simple to use and manages all your web pages automatiically. http://homepage.mac.com/duling/halfdozen/NRG-Howto-p1.html NetMRG is sortof like Cacti I think but they both seem to me overly complex to understand and use with little benefit for the effort. But I guess I just don't understand their way of templating really. http://homepage.mac.com/duling/halfdozen/NetMRG-Howto.html Mark
