Hi, Today I merged my code for the RubyCocoa layer. It's still very premature. There are some notes in sample-macruby/ RubyCocoa/README about what still needs to to be done. Also it is now in lib/osx/rubycocoa.rb and there's a osx/cocoa.rb. The latter will probably be removed as to not have RubyCocoa applications work by default. This needs to be discussed further. For now the main issues are the super_foo style methods and also some method missing like behaviour for objc methods that check if a method exists before dispatching. The latter is currently being worked around, but that should definitely move out. Cheers, Eloy

books for learning cocoa

Hello, I read about the MacRuby project a few days ago, and I've decided it would be nice to try to learn more about it, and then maybe actually write some applications using it. But the problem is, while I'm quite good at Ruby (I work as a Rails developer), I'm completely new to Cocoa programming and even to Macs in general. So I'd like to ask you, could you recommend me some [e]books or other sources of information that would help me get started? Should I get some book about general Cocoa programming (non-Ruby) at first? Or maybe something about RubyCocoa, like this http://pragprog.com/titles/bmrc/rubycocoa ? How big difference is there between programming in RubyCocoa and in MacRuby - is it small enough to be able to learn everything from a RubyCocoa book and then just change a few simple things to adapt that knowledge to MacRuby? I've investigated this error, and it seems that the call "File.join(dest, File.basename(src))" in fu_each_src_dest0 function in fileutils.rb doesn't always return what it should. In this case src = 'macruby', dest = '/Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.3/usr/bin/', but the result is '/Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.3/usr/bin/' instead of '/Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.3/usr/bin/macruby'. I ended up in the code of rb_file_join function in file.c, where strings are concatenated using CFStringAppend, but in this case CFStringAppend only appends the first string (.../usr/bin), and appending another (macruby) doesn't work, I don't know why. I found that this area of code was modified in changesets 213 and 214, and when I reverted those changes, the installation passed that point at which it previously failed (although it still failed later on another path).
