Hi Everybody, I am a part of the Taiwan Ruby user group and I am hoping to find a mac ruby user who could come and give us a presentation on mac ruby. Hi all, on my system, with MacRuby 0.7, I get this error: >> NSArray.array ArgumentError: wrong number of arguments every NSArray constructor method seems to exibit some kind of similar behaviour. I searched the tickets and couldn't find it there. L-P

quick question about macrubyc static

Hi, If I compile a ruby script with `macrubyc --static` is that essentially the same as compiling ruby from within an Xcode project or is there a real difference in what is produced? Regards, Iain

Profiling macruby code

Has anyone successfully profiled a running macruby (0.7) app? I've tried using Ruby's built in __Profiler and Ruby-Prof but both fail to run. Is there a Cocoa specific app that can be used? Thanks, Corey

posix_spawn Permission denied

Hi, I am building some applications for the first time and when I transfer them over to a new computer I am getting a posix_spawn permission denied error. I read a bit about this on the net and it seems it can be caused by dropbox. I use dropbox to transfer my files but they are always zipped. Does anyone have any suggestions as to other causes with the posix_spawn permission denied error? Thanks, Shaun

gen_bridge_metadata

I've been playing around with the EmbeddedMacRuby project. I'd like to be able to: a) Run user scripts (written in Ruby) from within a cocoa application (so far, so good) b) Call ruby functions from objective-c c) Call my private objective-c API's from Ruby functions and scripts I'm having problems with b & c. I'm assuming that the mechanism for b & c is different than that used to execute a Ruby script. It looks like gen_bridge_metadata script should be used to make my objective-c class and methods visible to Ruby. However, when I try to run gen_bridge_metadata on a simple header file that declares an objective-c class and a couple of test methods, gen_bridge_metadata doesn't produce anything in the output file other than the 3 lines of header information... 1 <?xml version='1.0'?> 2 <!DOCTYPE signatures SYSTEM "file://localhost/System/Library/DTDs/BridgeSupport.dtd"> 3 <signatures version='0.9'/> I'm running the tool as follows (I've also tried a number of other variations): gen_bridge_metadata -c '-I.' MyController.h -o MyController.bridgesupport I'm running 10.6.4, ruby 1.8.7 , with macRuby 0.7 installed. I also have ruby1.9 installed. Questions... 1) Shouldn't this produce at least simple output with information regarding the class and method calls? 2) Is there some documentation (or examples) somewhere that shows how to set things up properly to enable items b & c? I haven't been able to find anything in the documentation, or on the web that actually demonstrates how to do this, and gen_bridge_metadata doesn't seem to be cooperating. Any pointers or suggestions welcome. Thanks. -Larry

MacRuby 0.7 with Appscript

Hi all, I've just updated to MacRuby 0.7 and it appears that it breaks Appscript... I've recompiled the framework, re-ran the macruby-appscript setup.rb, but if I try to require "appscript" I get: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all warning: Unable to restore previously selected frame. Data Formatters temporarily unavailable, will re-try after a 'continue'. (Not safe to call dlopen at this time.) Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative easy way to script other applications from MacRuby? Thanks, -Gabriel

Converting Ruby-style method signatures back to Obj-C style

Hi all, I have a somewhat esoteric problem and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions about how to deal with it. Basically I'm writing a Ruby class that wraps some Objective-C classes and provides a common interface to them, and I'm using method_missing to pass along messages if the wrapped object understands them. This works great for simple methods that don't have named parameters. However, by the time a call hits method_missing, MacRuby has already converted the method signature to a Ruby-style call. For example, one object I'm wrapping has a method "doScript:in:" - but by the time that hits method_missing I have a method with signature "doScript:" and a list of arguments like "script, {:in => target}". Now of course, I can add some logic to my method_missing handler to check if the second param is a Hash and reconstruct the Obj-C method signature from that. I'm just wondering if MacRuby provides a built-in way to do that, or if I'm missing an easier way to handle this... Any input appreciated! Thanks, -Gabriel

macirb or not working with awesome_print

"DietRB" or "macirb" don't seem to be working after I install "gem awesome_print" I have to "gem uninstall awesome_print" to get it to work. Launch an app from the command line

I'm trying to figure out how to launch a macruby app (with a cocoa UI) from the command line without relying on xcode or xcodebuild. The problem i'm running into is that the NSBundle.mainBundle is not being set when I run the app from the command line. I've tried using this: macruby -C. myApp.rb But that doesn't set the bundle to the current directory and I get this error: No Info.plist file in application bundle or no NSPrincipalClass in the Info.plist file, exiting Is it possible to run a macruby app from the command line? Should I be using macrubyc to do this? Thanks, Corey
