It's kind of a complicated setup, so I've created a minimal-ish project in github containing ObjC and MacRuby code to illustrate the problem. It's here: http://github.com/diffengr/macruby_forwarding_invocation_example That contains an XCode project and a rakefile. It has the ObjC classes Candy and CandyWrapper, and they both have the NSString* property flavor. CandyWrapper declares that property @dynamic, and forwards it to Candy. Here's the code that works in ObjC. Works as expected in Ruby 1.8.7. In MacRuby, programs freeze on the call to render. I tried using the macruby debugger to narrow the issue, but I could not. I attach sample scripts. At first, I have to apply a small dirty patch to MacRuby to avoid {{{"unrecognized runtime type `?'"}}} exception. The function AudioDeviceStart/Stop take an argument has type `"^?"`, but MacRuby doesn't allow that type. I attach the patch too. In my sample, register Proc as callback function with AudioDeviceCreateIOProcID() seems success. Then call AudioDeviceStart() to start playback, but the Proc object seems never called. The sample script intends play silent waveform, so make no sound is OK, but log message to stdout with Kernel#p method isn't available. The callback function in CoreAudio is called from CoreAudio internal thread.
