I don't have a good answer to your question, but may I suggest CoreData? More to learn, but a native solution that might fit MacRuby with fewer issues:

Both ActiveRecord and Sequel die in IRB (segmentation fault: 11) when I try to access the data table. Datamapper doesn't even load in IRB for me.

Has anyone had any success with any ORM in XCode?
