I got a wireless induction charging unit for my Apple Magic Mouse (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H4825ZM/A/mobee-magic-charger-for-apple-ma...). This was located next to my (SCR 3310) CAC reader. When I tried to log into Army AKO using CAC, I got a certificate error. Moving the CAC reader away from the charging station fixed the problem. I thought this observation might be of interest.... dave

Dave, Good real world information to know for this audience - Thanks for sharing. Chargers such as these will probably affect many types of other devices as well. - Shawn ______________________________________________________ Shawn Geddis geddis@me.com Enterprise Security Consulting Engineer, Apple geddis@apple.com MacOSForge: Smart Card Services Project Lead: Web: http://smartcardservices.macosforge.org/ Lists: http://lists.macosforge.org/mailman/listinfo ______________________________________________________
I have my Mobee charger within 1" of an Omikey Cardman 3121 and an ActivCard USB Reader v2.0, with no ill effects. Chris
Specially cardterminals with RFID capabilities can be affected by alternating field emitters. Chris
I've never seen a shielded smart card reader, so I'm not completely surprised. The FCC certification for electronics is evaluating emissions, not full-spectrum electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). For that, you'd need to go to MIL-STD-461E. -- T On 1/2/13 8:14 AM, "David Emery" <wr17862@gmail.com> wrote:
