Some naming thoughts

StructureID: It's more than just an ID now. Besides the renaming, it should perhaps be merged with PropertyMap since there isn't as clearly a separate role. As for names: - Structure Pro: "these two objects have the same structure" sounds good Con: - StructureDescriptor - Shape Pro: "these two objects have the same shape"; short & sweet; Con: maybe don't want to rip off Mozilla's name? VM/CTI => jit/NativeCodeGeneratorX86 or jit/MachineCodeGeneratorX86 masm/X86Assembler => jit/AssemblerX86 I'm pretty sure this is good, but "Machine" or "Native"? I like "Native" somewhat better, now that we use "JS" and "Host" to distinguish between things originally in JS and originally in C++. Thought: will we end up with a platform-independent core for NativeCodeGenerator or will it have to be rewritten from scratch for every CPU architecture? We could probably make more of the code and logic reusable by having helper functions that emit the code for high- level operations, similar to things like emitJumpSlowCaseIfNotJSCell, or even larger chunks like compileBinaryArithOp. I am removing ExecState

I'm about 90% done getting rid of ExecState. Now ExecState and JSGlobalData are one and the same. I think it will be a speedup once I get the correctness issues resolved. This was inspired by Geoff, who suggested making ExecState be a call frame pointer. I think that's still a reasonable alternative; we can debate the pros and cons on Monday. The downside of ExecState being JSGlobalData is that you have to store the call frame pointer in a global as you make function calls. The upside is that you don't have to chase a pointer to get to global data. -- Darin

SquirrelFish Gabage Collector

Hi, SquirrelFish seems to use a conservative garbage collector with two heaps - primary heap and number heap. Is there any plan to implement an accurate garbage collector? Google V8 employed a generational, accurate garbage collector for fast memory allocation. http://code.google.com/apis/v8/design.html However, I am not sure how much the gabage collector affects the overall performance of JavaScript. PowerPC JIT compiler

Hi! I'd like to know if some work is already planned to support other architectures in the context threaded JIT. As far as I've seen, the code needs some refactoring before adding more architectures, is someone already on this? I ask because once this is done, I'd be interested in trying to contribute some code for a PowerPC JIT compiler. Cheers, Guillaume
