freezing keyboard

I have found that when I press the option or command keys and at the same time click at X11.app menubar items, my keyboard freezes. Strangely, I am able to get the keyboard working again by pressing twice the numeric lock button. I wonder if others are seeing this behavior. I am using Powerbook G4 (Aluminum) with Mac OS 10.5.3, X11 2.3.0-rc4, X11-1.4.2-apple2, and Xquartz-1.4.2-apple2. Cheers -John

spaces in pathnames

So I just pushed a patch to xinit that addresses some issues with spaces in pathnames. One issue remains, and I'm not sure if there's a clean way to address it. At first, I thought I could do something like this: - serverargs=${serverargs}" -auth "${xserverauthfile} + serverargs=${serverargs}" -auth '"${xserverauthfile}"'" but that doesn't work. example: $ mya="Some thing with spaces" $ myargs="1 2 '$mya'" $ ./printargs $myargs argv[0] = ./printargs argv[1] = 1 argv[2] = 2 argv[3] = 'Some argv[4] = thing argv[5] = with argv[6] = spaces' So... any thoughts on how to overcome this cleanly? And no, telling people to not use spaces is unfortunately not an option... and neither is hitting them over the head with a do-better stick. --Jeremy

Fix?: crash at startup

I have uploaded a new version of the server for testing. 1.4.2 should correct the startup crash that people have been seeing with 2.3.0-rc3 and later. Install 2.3.0-rc4, then grab http://static.macosforge.org/xquartz/downloads/X11-1.4.2-apple2.bz2 , decompress it and copy it to /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/ Contents/MacOS/X11 Please let me know if this works for you. For some reason, I've only seen that crash once, so I don't have a reliable way of really verifying that it is fixed, but I'm pretty sure I know what the cause was and fixed that problem. --Jeremy

Reverting from 2.3.0-rc4 to 2.2.2

Gentlepeople, Please forgive the user-ish question, but how do I cleanly revert from 2.3.0-rc4 to 2.2.2? I mistakenly installed the 2.3.0 variant after upgrading to 10.5.3, and have run into various issues (stuck ctrl and lack of .xinitrc invocation in particular). I noticed the file list in the .bom under the Receipts directory ... should I simply remove everything that's a file or an empty directory listed there and do a clean re-install of 2.2.2? Do I need to go back and install the virgin Leopard X11 package first? Is there a script hidden somewhere that can do this easily? Again, my most abject apologies for bugging the developers for such a dumb-user question! Thanks very much! - Jim

This adds in the newer version of pixman so the Xephyr, Xfake, Xnest, and Xvfb load properly and pulls in a newer version of freetype to address some security issues. http://xquartz.macosforge.org/downloads/X11-2.2.3_rc1.pkg
