quartz-wm for tiger note

Thanks for the quartz-wm for tiger. I was going to request this for Tiger so that I can try the pasteboard from the MacPorts X11 server, but you have already created a binary. With this quartz-wm, I can turn on all the pasteboard options in the macports X11 preferences (I'm using xorg-server-1.4.2-apple31), and copying and pasting seems to work as well as in Leopard. I haven't noticed any abnormal CPU usage with all the pasteboard options enabled. The only problem that I have with the new quartz-wm is if I minimize an X11 window to the dock. There is no way to get the window out of the dock. No matter if I double-click the minimized icon in the dock or right-click the icon and choose "open", the window does not un- minimize. I can get the window at least visible again by clicking the "Bring All to Front" menu item but the icon still stays in the dock, the window cannot be re-minimized again, and sometimes the window is not redrawn properly. Thanks for your work on X11. I know that the Tiger compatibility is probably not high on your list of things to do. Martin

Fix FFM behaviour

Instead of XQuartz, I am using Ion-3 as my default window manager in rootless mode. The window manager Ion grabs the whole desktop and allows me to tile it into frames. Each frame can hold several windows of X11 applications. Ion makes heavy use of focus follows mouse, as it moves focus to the frame then thus to the window where the mouse moves to. Ion was unusable since Xquartz-1.3.0-apple13, see this discussion on x11-users: http://lists.apple.com/archives/x11-users/2008/Apr/msg00131.html . Short version: When I open a non-X11 application, i.e. native application, the native window opens up in front of my X11 windows and has the focus. As soon as I move the mouse into another X11 window that is somewhere in the background, this window pops to front and gets painted over the native window. The native window still has the focus, though (text I tpye ends up in the native window). The situation improved with this patch: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?h=xorg-server-1.4-apple&id… Now, X11 only gets events when the mouse is over an X11 window. If the mouse does not leave the native window, X11 does not receive an event and thus the X11 windows does not pop to front. As soon as I leave the native window, the underlying X11 window pops to front, but the focus stays with the native window, same as before. Hello! I tried to update the programmes menu and hoped I could copy from GNU Emacs some complete invocations. When I had a field selected in the "menu editor" I was not able to copy from any X client. Is this the expected behaviour on Mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC, MacPorts? (It works to copy text from the X client and select a field in the "menu editor" afterwards to paste it now.) -- Greetings Pete Upgraded, adj.: Didn't work the first time.

I finally got to looking through your install log, and one hunch I had is now disproved (meaning I'm back to having no clue). I changed to using -Os instead of -O2 sometime around 2.3.2_betaXX , but you're seeing this with -O2 as well in your MacPorts install. Chris, what version of xorg-server are you "happy" with in that early 2.3.2 beta you're using? Try editing the MacPorts Portfile to install that version instead of the latest. I forget what the default location is for MacPorts Portfiles... Just 'cd /opt/local/var/ macports/; find . -name xorg-server' and it'll pop up. Assuming that one works, try stepping forward one version and verify that it breaks. Then we'll try narrowing down from there.
