I urge you to read the developer info page. There is a script on there to help you setup your environment for the build... namely, stripping Fink and macports out of the environment, and adding pkg- info and aclocal dirs in /usr/X11 into the environment.
Fink and MacPorts are not per se bad. One sometimes needs a means to have an update more often than once between olympic games. And it's easy to direct tools to take from here or from there. Anyway, I'll make a try without Fink! In earlier versions of xserver I could observe that the scripts were able to find already built and installed files. I also created a sym- link /usr/X11 pointing into the installation area and so I have: pete 295 /\ ls -l /usr/X11/share/aclocal/ total 72 -rw-r--r-- 1 pete admin 7511 10 Nov 06:44 fontutil.m4 -rw-r--r-- 1 pete admin 13639 16 Nov 13:20 xorg-macros.m4 -rw-r--r-- 1 pete admin 2501 16 Nov 13:20 xorgversion.m4 -rw-r--r-- 1 pete admin 5188 9 Nov 14:33 xtrans.m4 I'll add the -I /usr/X11/share/aclocal component to ACLOCAL! The version of libxtrans installed is 1.2.2 -- Greetings Pete Windows, c'est un peu comme le beaujolais nouveau: à chaque nouvelle cuvée on sait que ce sera dégueulasse, mais on en prend quand même, par masochisme.
