How can I make new releases of Xquartz appear in "check for updates..."?
You can't. But the X11 app itself can check for updates. See the X11 menu. Also, I think X11.app checks for updates automatically upon startup? If I got that wrong, turn it on using defaults write org.x.x11 SUEnableAutomaticChecks 1 Note, however, that some system updates include X11 updates, and they frequently conflict with the XQuartz stuff. It's somewhat annoying, but it's the price we pay for being on the bleeding edge. This means you may need to reinstall XQuartz after a system update. - Harald
