If that still produces a problem, try creating a new user and testing it on the new user? Assuming one of those works, try narrowing down the preference that is causing the behavior.
same behavior :-( no matter if I created .xinitrc.d or not - interestingly, even with .xinitrc.d - no kde program would start on the test account though it does it on my one (even without .xinitrc.d) I did disable PB on the test account - no difference :-(
Ok, this is just bizarre... So you have 10.5.6 + XQuartz 2.3.2.1 and a vanilla user sees 100% CPU usage when you start X11.app? There has got to be some other factor at play here...
