Subject: [Xquartz-dev] Check for X11 Updates broken?

I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned on the mailing list yet, but
the "Check for X11 Updates..." functionality has been broken in Xquartz for
awhile now. Whenver, I start Xquartz 2.7.4 under 10.7.5 with the latest
security updates and select the "Check for X11 Updates..." menu item from
the Xquartz X11 menu, the system log shows...

Oct 20 14:04:42 MacBookPro org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[415]:
Oct 20 14:04:49 MacBookPro org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[415]: /opt/X11/bin/xinit: XFree86_VT property unexpectedly has 0 items instead of 1
Oct 20 14:05:55 MacBookPro X11.bin[380]: Sparkle Error: An error occurred in retrieving update information. Please try again later.
Oct 20 14:05:55 MacBookPro X11.bin[380]: Sparkle Error (continued): The request timed out.
Oct 20 14:06:48 MacBookPro org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[415]: /opt/X11/bin/xinit: connection to X server lost
Oct 20 14:06:48 MacBookPro org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[415]:

and a dialog appears with the text "Update Error! An error occured in retrieving
update information. Please try again later." as well as a "Cancel Update" button.
I don't see any obvious error messages in /Users/howarth/Library/Logs/X11/org.macosforge.xquartz.log.
The same issue is seen under Mountain Lion. In each case, I had to manually download the dmg for
Xquartz 2.7.4 in order to update the prior 2.7.4rc1 release. However, both 2.7.4rc1 and 2.7.4 display
the broken update feature. Is the update server down? Thanks in advance for any clarifications.
         Jack
