xscope doesn't use Xlib. You need to just tell it what the "traditional" display is. Your best bet is just checking 'ps x' to see the arguments to /opt/X11/bin/X : jeremy 12366 0.0 0.0 2446148 848 ?? S 1:53PM 0:00.00 /opt/X11/bin/X :5 -dpi 96 Then use that to start xscope: /opt/X11/bin/xscope -i12 -o5 Somewhere else, run: DISPLAY=:12 xinput test pointer --- That being said, it looks like /opt/X11/bin/xscope gets hung up somewhere...
