The commands 'sudo port sync' and 'sudo port outdated' seem to work
The following installed ports are outdated: perl5 5.8.8_2 < 5.8.9_0 perl5.8 5.8.8_3 < 5.8.9_1 xinit 1.1.1_0 < 1.1.1_1 xorg-libice 1.0.4_0 < 1.0.5_0 xorg-server 1.4.2-apple30_0 < 1.4.2-apple31_0
but the upgrade fails:
Can't map the URL 'file://.' to a port description file ("Could not find Portfile in /opt"). Please verify that the directory and portfile syntax are correct. To use the current port, you must be in a port's directory. (you might also see this message if a pseudo-port such as outdated or installed expands to no ports).
You need to tell it what to update. Do: sudo port -v upgrade outdated
