I just ran into this same problem (and filed ticket #390 about it). Now that I re-read this thread, I notice that on 2.5.0 I have
$ echo $DISPLAY /tmp/launch-Cz75dW/org.macosforge.xquartz:0
whereas in beta2 I was seeing just "org.macosforge.xquartz:0.0". So that's the source of the problem, but what could be mis-setting the environment variable?
