Actually, X11 was simply waiting for Installer.app to finish. You shouldn't've needed to force-quit. In any event, this behavior should be better with the changes that I pushed into 2.4.0_rc1.

I believe that. In my case the issue was that I didn't know that the Installer was running because it didn't come to focus until after I quit X11. (It had launched behind it.)
