I have uploaded a new version of the server for testing. 1.4.2 should correct the startup crash that people have been seeing with 2.3.0-rc3 and later. Install 2.3.0-rc4, then grab http://static.macosforge.org/xquartz/downloads/X11-1.4.2-apple2.bz2 , decompress it and copy it to /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/ Contents/MacOS/X11 Please let me know if this works for you. For some reason, I've only seen that crash once, so I don't have a reliable way of really verifying that it is fixed, but I'm pretty sure I know what the cause was and fixed that problem. --Jeremy
Did you mean to say this? Shouldn't it go to /usr/X11/bin/Xquartx ? On 25 Jun 2008, at 23:11, Jeremy Huddleston wrote:

No. What I said is correct. --Jeremy On Jun 28, 2008, at 11:54, Peter Collinson wrote:

To elaborate on Jeremy's answer for those who didn't watch all episodes: In the 2.3.0-rc series, the two executables /usr/X11/bin/Xquartz and /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11 have changed roles. The latter is now the "real" X server, see <http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/xquartz-dev/2008-May/000711.html> -- Martin
This was a DOH moment from me - sorry for the noise - I hadn't paid enough attention to the file I was pulling. When you install this remember to do something like chmod 755 X11 before you start things up. On 29 Jun 2008, at 06:53, Martin Costabel wrote:
