Leopard X11 2.3.2.1 Update
A small bug was found in the fontconfig configuration with 2.3.2. This update corrects fontconfig to use the correct configuration directory (/usr/X11/lib/X11/fontconfig instead of /usr/X11/etc/fonts). http://static.macosforge.org/xquartz/downloads/X11-2.3.2.1.dmg
Looks good. I manually deleted the /usr/X11/etc/... directory after installing 2.3.2.1. No issues thus far in my testing. Thanks!!! Merle On Jan 3, 2009, at 2:32 PM, Jeremy Huddleston wrote:

I apologize if this is a little off-topic, however, it is somewhat related ... I am having a problem with the clipboard between X11 environment and Mac OSX. I can copy from OSX to X11, however, I can't copy within the X11 environment. The Edit menu doesn't update to display/enable paste. I am having the exact same problem with Parallels Desktop, between OSX and Windows XP. OS = 10.5.6, Mac Book Pro (latest unibody model). I've repaired permissions already to no avail. Ideas? Thanks in advance. Enrique Terrazas

XQuartz 2.3.3 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple31) ... just upgraded to the latest. No, alt-click doesn't work either. The strange thing is that Parallels Desktop exhibits similar behavior. I've quit X11.app, and restarted an xterm window, and now I can copy xterm -> OSX, but not OSX -> xterm, and not xterm -> xterm. I noticed this starting within Parallels about the time I got my new macbook pro and using the migration assistant to set it up. I'm wondering if that somehow affected the system-wide clipboard? Another thing I noticed is that the perl module "Mac::Pasteboard" also stopped working for me around the same time. Enrique Terrazas

Can you try creating a new user account and logging in as that user. Then just startup X11.app and TextEdit.app. Open an xterm in X11 and see if you can copy paste between the two. If that works, try firing up parallels on that new user and test again.

Interesting thought ... I logged in (fast user switching) as another existing user, and got the same results. I created another user, logged in, and same results. I can copy xterm -> TextEdit, but not TextEdit -> xterm, and not xterm -> xterm. Even though the Edit menu doesn't change to include a "Paste" menu item when copying something in xterm, trying to paste something (command-v) copied from TextEdit results in an a "ö" character with the new user (didn't see that with my regular login). A puzzle ... Enrique Terrazas

Do you have "Emulate three button mouse" activated in the X11 Preferences? Without this, you won't be able to paste into xterm.

cmd-v won't work in xterm (and never has, AFAIK). Also, there is no "paste" item in the Edit menu. You *must* use middle-click to paste into xterm. I don't think there is a keyboard method to do it. -- Martin

Several terminals support Shift-Insert for paste, and it's my preferred method; haven't tried it with xterm (I'm an rxvt-unicode guy myself). Of course, the Mac has no Insert key and I haven't yet got to trying xmodmap fu to give it one - I'm thinking about using repurposing Shift-Return if that's possible. (This might be stupid; in a former life I fled from Konsole to Gnome-Terminal because I have a bad habit of pressing Shift-Return instead of Return by accident, and Konsole ignored that...) I don't think there is a keyboard method to do it. in ~/.Xresources (or perhaps ~/XTerm instead) the following accomplish this goal, at least for me: Mod1 <KeyPress> C : select-cursor-start() select-cursor-end(PRIMARY,CLIPBOARD) \n\ Mod1 <KeyPress> V : insert-selection(PRIMARY,CLIPBOARD) \n\ Meta <KeyPress> C : select-cursor-start() select-cursor-end(PRIMARY,CUT_BUFFER0) \n\ Meta <KeyPress> V : insert-selection(PRIMARY,CUT_BUFFER0)
In ~/.xmodmap I also have keycode 63 = Meta_L keycode 71 = Meta_R keycode 69 = Mode_switch clear Mod1 clear Mod2 clear Mod3 add Mod1 = Alt_L add Mod2 = Meta_L Meta_R add Mod3 = Mode_switch That lets the right Cmd modifier do what it would normally do and the left operate differently--useful in XEmacs. On an old PowerBook the distinction between Left and Right was not possible (IIRC).
