[this is a resend because i don't think my first attempt will go through as it was sent with a non-subscribed email address] hello all, i opened http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/636 back in september and jeremyhu suggested i write here to try and get the issue addressed. from the ticket: -- ever since upgrading from 2.7.2 to 2.7.3, i now see X11.app stop bringing it's windows to the foreground when switching back to it. this doesn't happen immediately. if i restart X11.app, things work for a while, but then eventually break. once broken, the bad behavior is reproducible every time. i only run one X application (Visual SlickEdit). using the <CMD>-2 keyboard shortcut will bring the window back to the foreground. sometimes, like right now, that won't even work and i'll need to minimize the window and i'll need to use Window -> Bring All to Front to get it to come back up. -- and: -- another data point: exiting and restarting the X application is another way to work around the problem (presumably temporarily) -- help? tia, marc
hi, again. i didn't get any response to my plea back in may and jeremy tells me that he's too busy at work on other things to look into this. i'd be thrilled to work out a mutually beneficial arrangement with any other developer to reward her for her time, monetarily or otherwise. this issue has been plaguing me for far too long. if any of you are interested, please call or text me at +1 415 787 2335. cheers, marc On Wed, May 8, 2013 at 4:43 PM, Marc Bejarano <lists.macosforge.org@beej.org

You should check the system logs from around the time when the problem begins. Something may be visible in Console.app in the All Messages results or you may need to check additional logs. It may even be necessary to enable additional logging using the techniques described in the Xquartz(1) and quartz-wm(1) man pages. Regards, Ken On Nov 8, 2013, at 10:44 PM, Marc Bejarano wrote:

hi all, just an update on this issue. i tried to have a dialog with ken about the possibility of his taking me up on my offer, but he went AWOL. since then, i upgraded to Mavericks and haven't seen the problem since. i doubt the underlying bug has been squashed, but i'm pretty thrilled with the current wallpaper covering it, for now :) marc On Sat, Nov 9, 2013 at 12:53 AM, Ken Thomases <ken@codeweavers.com> wrote:
