From ryandesign at macports.org Mon Mar 14 07:00:37 2016 From: ryandesign at macports.org (Ryan Schmidt) Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2016 01:00:37 -0500 Subject: [MacPorts-announce] Prebuilt archives available for El Capitan Message-ID: The MacPorts project is pleased to announce that prebuilt archives for OS X 10.11 El Capitan are now available for many ports, and will be used automatically when installing. These join our existing prebuilt archives for OS X 10.6, 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10. (The building of binaries for OS X 10.7 is temporarily suspended but will resume.) A prebuilt archive cannot always be used, for a number of reasons: * Our archives are built only for the default prefix (/opt/local), so if MacPorts is installed in a custom prefix, it will not download them. This also applies to applications_dir (/Applications/MacPorts) and frameworks_dir (${prefix}/Library/Frameworks). * We only build archives for the default variants of each port. * Some ports have a license that does not allow for distribution of binaries, or have a license that conflicts with the license of a dependency in a way that prevents such distribution. * Some ports do not indicate their license, so we do not distribute archives of those ports. -Ryan From ryandesign at macports.org Mon Mar 14 07:32:27 2016 From: ryandesign at macports.org (Ryan Schmidt) Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2016 01:32:27 -0500 Subject: [MacPorts-announce] Web site and downloads now accelerated by MaxCDN Message-ID: <7E05D196-5367-403D-ABC5-B538556B675C@macports.org> The MacPorts project is delighted to announce that our main web site and primary file distribution web servers are now being accelerated by the MaxCDN content delivery network. With servers in multiple North American and European locations, many users will experience faster access to our web site and faster downloads of distfiles and archives when installing ports. You may have noticed this already; this change was made four weeks ago, and since then the CDN has already delivered over 10TB of data for MacPorts. We are very grateful to MaxCDN for donating this service to us and for its support of open-source software. https://www.maxcdn.com/ We also reiterate our very great thanks and gratitude to the many universities and other organizations providing MacPorts mirror servers. https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Mirrors -Ryan
