ROOT though has a hell of a lot of variants, and some are provide as is, in that I know they give troubles in some cases but I keep them neverless. qt4_mac is one in particular. It has never worked that well for me, and I tried to remove it a while back, but added it back when I found some users actually found it OK….

Yeah… that doesn't quite work as expected - you still use the X11 backend even with qt4_mac support (go figure… partly why I don't really place much hold in this variant). The cocoa variant on the other hand is newer and gives real native OSX GUI support, and does work well for me. X11 is really not used (although again for perverse reasons the build/install dependency is still there at the moment. Hopefully will be fixed some time …).

I cannot though reproduce your failure. The variant combination

just worked find for me….

Can you reproduce the failure you had ?

cocoa works fine for me….

I also am keen to get cling working, but this is still very very experimental and I haven't managed it yet. I test the variant each time but so far it still fails …. I suspect this may not be a viable alternative until ROOT 6 is released, but we can hope...

cheers Chris
