 I hope this can help the next person who hits this (bug #10705 is not
 clear).

 It would be good if installation worked automatically (by selecting the
 variant automatically? or by having common package with pdffonts used by
 both xpdf and poppler? or some other way?) or at least on failure if it
 printed some information on how to resolve the problem.
