 I'm seeing the same error with externally built pysqlite2:
 http://www.initd.org/pub/software/pysqlite/releases/2.4/2.4.1/

 This makes me suspect my python installation itself is fubar. ;-(

 The only remotely relevant google hits involve mod_python/mod_cache, which
 isn't at issue here.

 Help please, I don't want to go use fink, but I have to get some work
 done.
