 The head binary is the standard unix utility:

 $ which head
 /usr/bin/head

 $ echo 'a\nb\nc' | head -n 1
 a
 }}}

 There is also a HEAD utility as part of perl's lwp:

 $ HEAD -v
 This is lwp-request version 2.07 (libwww-perl-5.805)

 }}}

 But that's "HEAD", not "head"...
