 I had pretty much the same problem with the Leopard version. The installer
 did not actually freeze though, if you stick around long enough you should
 eventually get an error message saying that installation failed. I had the
 exact same files & dirs missing as you. My guess is that it is simply a
 timeout or probably a temporary name resolution error during a selfupdate.
 You might want retry installing a few times, it helped in my case..
