 I'm on 10.4.11/Intel. It's a fresh install of macports. I've installed

 $ port installed dbus
 The following ports are currently installed:
   dbus @1.2.12_4 (active)

 $ cat /opt/local/etc/macports/variants.conf
 +no_static +no_x11 -x11 +quartz
 }}}

 When I load dbus

 sudo launchctl   load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.dbus.plist
 }}}

 I get in the console
