 I had the same issue. Apparently qmake generates a Makefile that tries to
 build universal binary, but qt itself is not built as universal in
 macports by default. I ended up just modifying the generated Makefile
 after the error (removed all instances of -arch i386), but I guess
 building all the dependencies as universal would work too.
