 Ok, then you're right, you do indeed have a Core (not Core 2) processor,
 and it is not 64-bit-capable, therefore you should not be trying to use
 the universal variant (whose purpose is to build both 32-bit and 64-bit
 programs). The instructions you were following for installing wine were
 not correct in this regard. I've sent a correction to the author of those
 instructions (and Cc'd you on them.)

 Remove "+universal" from your variants.conf, clean freetype (sudo port
 clean freetype) and try again.
