 Y can confirm that this allows the build to proceed.  The interesting
 thing is that I'd messed around with the problem a little bit on my
 machine.  Here's an observation.  On my machine, ranlib is getting called.
 This is a symlink from /usr/local/libtool on my machine.  Perhaps an
 incompatibility between the two?
