 Please comment on this update. I spent some time trying to do it now, but
 when you submitted the port in #16210 you included hundreds of lines of
 patches, which I'm now struggling to try to understand, and to figure out
 which parts are still needed and need to be adapted, and which parts
 should be discarded.
