 I know this is not very satisfying but it builds for me without error on
 Macports 2.0.3 Xcode 4.1 Mac OS X 10.6.8 x86_64.

 It also apparently built OK for buildbot since there is a binary archive
 here: [http://packages.macports.org/gtk2/]

 Port should have downloaded and installed the archive for you (unless you
 have that disabled or used -s).
