Comment:

 I looked at the source code nco-4.0.8/src/nco/ncra.c and found that a
 workaround is to set -DENABLE_NETCDF4. configure should set this when
 --enable-netcdf4 is set. Committed in r87655. Thanks for reporting. Let me
 know if you still find any strange behaviour.
