 While brute force isn't typically my first option (perhaps I should move
 it up in my list!) it did eliminate that this library existing was the
 cause for the issue.

 I was taken aback for a moment when it STILL ran the command exactly as
 before... but I quickly remembered to run mac port clean.  HOWEVER, my
 options to fix this problem without such a forceful solution may have
 worked had I ran mac port clean... doh.

 I do recommend implementing the NO_DEFAULT_PATH method or HINTS, I'm not
 an expert on CMAKE, but with my limited research it seems HINTS should be
 used in this case as NO_DEFAULT_PATH prevents loading of anything at all
 (even if I wanted to use the environment variables to override.)  With
 HINTS standard environment settings are used after, but the specialized
 environment settings for CMAKE are before.

 That being said this old ticket (https://trac.macports.org/ticket/18420)
 mentions using NO_DEFAULT_PATH.
