 I do not know if there is a better way but here is what I did (after
 downloading the patch file) :

 cd `port dir emacs-app`
 sudo patch -p1 < ~/Downloads/emacs-app-home.patch
 }}}
 Enter "Portfile" at the prompt "File to patch:", then :
 {{{
 sudo mv dports/aqua/emacs-app/files/patch-mavericks-* files
 sudo rm -rf dports
 sudo port upgrade emacs
 }}}
