 OK, thank you. I'm running the latest version of MacPorts, but I'm not
 sure why harfbuzz remained overlinked here. I reinstalled it and now it
 seems OK.

 Is there any FAQ entry about how to properly avoid overlinking (possibly
 without having to rebuild every single package from source)? Last time I
 was told that all the packages on the buildbots would need to be rebuilt
 (more or less from scratch) for this to work 100% right.
