 The problem seems to be that although the build system detects that
 [https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=40764 check_max has hung],
 and therefore uses default values instead, the check_max program stays
 running; MacPorts seems to wait for it to exit, because killing it in
 Activity Monitor allows the build phase to end normally. I
 [https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=97933 reported this] to
 the developer.
