 Email communication with the reporter confirmed that the error resulted
 from using inkscape-app. I add a note to the Portfile in the attached
 patch that tells users to use inkscape and not inkscape-app. I also
 correct the implementation of the default variant. This patch should
 effectively close the ticket.
