Can I just run the command anywhere on the filesystem like so?

For one thing, ar does not live at /opt/local/bin/ar, which would clearly
be a showstopper. I've found what files a port belongs to once they are
installed, but I don't know how to find what port _should_ have been there
to put that file there...
