 I was able to work around the issue using:
 {{{
 sudo port clean ld64
 sudo port upgrade ld64 configure.compiler=macports-clang-3.4
 }}}
 Of course, this requires `clang-3.4`.  It would probably work with another
 version of clang if you have a different one installed.
