New description:

 I am attempting to download port for the first time and it seems to have
 gone well except when I try to install cdo it gives me error saying that
 all the required dependencies are not there
 [file:///opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_textproc_libiconv/libiconv/main.log]

 I have XCode 4.5.2 and have tried the suggested "configure.compiler..."

 When I do port installed I only get:
 {{{
   expat @2.1.0_0 (active)
   libiconv @1.14_0 (active)
 }}}
  which is not all that I need for cdo!

 In all that I read it seems that port should pre-load all the dependencies
 for cdo to be installed but that isnt happening. I'm thinking I need to
 uninstall and re-install but Im open to suggestions. I'm a novice at all
 of this but I followed the directions closely and have checked for all
 updates and made sure my command line is installed on Xcode and all those
 extra things.\\
 please help!

Comment:

 Can you please run the following commands and attach the main.log file if
 one of them fails? (Use the “Attach file” button above.)
 {{{
 $ sudo port clean cdo libiconv
 $ sudo port install cdo
 }}}
