 time, many ports failed to build with clang; by now, clang is more mature,
 and ports have been updated to work with clang, so the suggestion to try
 another compiler is no longer generally useful.

 Thanks - I thought that might be the case, but was working my way through
 the advice on what to do before posting a ticket, so gave it a try just in
 case.
