 We could do that as well, but we might have to check which versions of
 python are available on different OS-es then. (I now fixed that problem
 with python and made some other minor changes.)

 I now have a commit ready, but I wanted to do the final build just to make
 sure that everything is still working as expected.

 My suggestion would be to commit the port as-is now. I'm almost sure that
 there will be a number of unexpected issues, but we'll get more feedback
 and we'll have more time to discuss further improvements. In particular I
 would like to submit as many patches as possible upstream to minimize the
 burden of maintainance in the future, but it makes no sense to wait until
 all the problem are fixed, let's just get the port in the wild. I would
 postpone switching to system python until we do some more testing. I can
 hardly imagine any MacPorts user that doesn't end up with a dependency on
 Python (sooner or later) and in case that we are lucky with the licence
 and get a binary build (I didn't check that yet), users won't even need to
 install Python.
